Before your first race weekend at Sakhir

A race weekend at the Bahrain International Circuit is one of the big occasions of the island's year. If it is your first, a few practical decisions made in advance will shape the whole experience.
Decide what you want to see
Do you want the start and the pit lane, or wheel-to-wheel action at a corner? Grandstands on the main straight put you in front of the grid and the pit stops, while corner stands give longer looks at cars braking and overtaking. General admission areas trade comfort for flexibility. Event organisers publish the seating options for each meeting, and it pays to read them closely.
Plan the journey both ways
The circuit is in the desert at Sakhir, about half an hour's drive from Manama on a normal day. On race days traffic builds, and the queue to leave after the main event can be long. Look for shuttle and parking information from the organisers, or arrange a ride home in advance. Leaving a little before or well after the crowds can make a big difference.
Pack for the desert
Ear protection is essential, especially for children. Afternoon sessions can be sunny and warm, while evenings in the desert can cool quickly early in the year, so bring sun protection and a light layer. Comfortable shoes help, since you may walk a long way between car parks, gates and stands. Check what you may bring through the gates; bag rules are set for each event.
Make time for the extras
Major weekends usually include support races, fan zones and entertainment, and sometimes concerts after the racing. These can be as memorable as the main event, so arrive early on at least one day to explore.
Round out the trip
The Tree of Life is a short drive from the circuit and makes a good stop on a non-race afternoon. Back in Manama, the souq and the waterfront are easy evening outings. Read more in our motorsport weekend guide and the circuit listing.
